Explore the Park Güell, the only park designed by Gaudí of all Barcelona
This tour is dedicated to the only park designed by Gaudí in Barcelona, the Park Güell, unfinished project of a garden district of the architect Antoni Gaudí that was financed by Eusebi Güell.
The park has all the characteristics of modernism and the particular vision of Gaudí (sinuous and organic forms, integration with nature, broken mosaics). Open to the public in 1922, it was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1984.
Park Güell is a demonstration of how advanced Gaudí was.
A visionary who mixed advanced engineering and decoration techniques loaded with fantasy as we can see in the famous mosaic or salamander dragon, which is also an overflow of the underground water cistern, and the curved mosaic bench around the square that is a the time a seat, a balcony and a wonderful work of art.
The park was cataloged as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984.
It was supposed to be a residential neighborhood, which was financed by Eusebi Güell and meticulously planned by Gaudí with interlaced paths and trails, water catchment, market and plaza, gardens and country houses. Only two houses were sold and, finally, the Güell family sold it for a symbolic amount to the city as a park and allowed us all to benefit from this beautiful world heritage site.
